Maryland Trip Part 1: Twins Visit Charm City

Many words have been written previously about the difficulties of flying with kids. I’ll spare you the sob story and simply acknowledge that it sucks.  The best piece of advice I can offer is when you fold up your stroller to put it through the X-ray machine make sure to place it wheels-up, this prevents jamming the machine and holding up the line.  If you need other advice make sure to think happy thoughts for about an hour before you google “fly with baby.”

When we were planning our trip to Maryland to visit family I couldn’t resist the opportunity to finally visit Charm City Cakes (the bakery around which “Ace Of Cakes” is based). I’ve edited on Ace Of Cakes for over two years out here in L.A. and have never had the chance.

Dominik and Scarlett got to spend a few quality moments with Mary Alice before they were treated to a tastes of fondant and bites of cake.

Duff and Geof were both out when we visited but we got to meet Anna, Ben, Elena, Erica, Katherine, Katie Rose, Lauren, Mark, Mary Smith, and Sofia.

Once loosed into the bakery Scarlett immediately walked into the kitchen and grabbed spice from a lower shelf and Dominik crawled onto a rolling rack. It became clear that everything in the busy bakery from a baby’s eye view everything was accessible and perfect for putting in their mouths.

Serendipity

As an early birthday present, M.J. took me to see Madonna at Dodger’s Stadium. In a crowd of nearly 40,000 people, I managed to sit directly in front of a woman with a 5 month old who lives in my same neighborhood, delivered at the same hospital as me, and has Dr. Dwight as her obstetrician (who, coincidentally, delivered Madonna’s first baby Lourdes).  Consequently, I got to talk about babies for the two hours we had to wait for the show to start. Turns out, we’re not the only parents who are sleep deprived!

Although I had major mom guilt for leaving the twins with a sitter for so long, I had a great time.  M.J. managed to get us really good seats.  Here’s our view of the stage:

Double Laughter

 

Today after a long walk in the Bob, Scarlett and Louise hung out together on the back porch.

Dominik and I chilled out on the bed and laughed and laughed (his first time!).

Then I got some great news that our friends Ryan and Sally are currently working on making a GIRL! Perhaps a future daughter in law?

Our good friend Louise came by to visit and ended up helping me feed and burp the babies.  Here she is with Dominik.  She also brought us a wonderful book, Slumber Boat, which was illustrated by her sister.

Stuffed Duck.

 

Today we got a visit from our friend Sarah Ann who brought us a beautifully gigantic stuffed duck that the twins can ride around on when they get older.  I’ll be sure to get a picture of it soon.

Project Swaddle

With this snug form fitting swaddle I was trying to evoke a classic sense of calm and confidence. I like to think this is the kind of swaddle George Clooney would wear if a night on the town included a crib.

Beth likes to call this her open toe day swaddle. This arms free wrap is for the child who likes to express himself with his hands but wants the convenience of full time nap preparedness and cool feet.
